Gardner had posted a photo of boxes, a ladder and construction equipment and captioned the post, \u201cDo I even have to say what I\u2019m getting built at my new house?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
That drew a response from Mariakis where she \u2014 \u201cjokingly,\u201d per the suit \u2014 wrote back to him: \u201cA simulator to teach you how not to commit pass interference or defensive holding?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
That\u2019s when Gardner replied with the post in question, as he insinuated that Mariakis had an account on OnlyFans, which is a subscription platform primarily associated with sexually explicit content.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sure your husband wouldn\u2019t like it if I told him you [direct messaged] me your OF link would he?\u201d Gardner replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The lawsuit claimed that the social media response by Gardner was viewed by at least 9.5 million people and stated that Mariakis called on the Jets star to provide evidence of his claims in two separate social media replies.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gardner \u201cor someone acting on his behalf\u201d deleted the post from his X account on Aug. 22, the lawsuit stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The suit denies Mariakas had any such OnlyFans account, accusing Gardner of making a \u201cknowingly false and malicious statement,\u201d while also claiming that it was amplified by a Barstool Sports post titled: \u201cIf you\u2019re a Married OnlyFans Model Who\u2019s Been DMing Sauce Gardner, You\u2019d Be Wise Not to Troll Him about His Coverage Skill.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mariakis and her family \u201cexperienced numerous embarrassing moments and harassment from acquaintances, friends, family, co-workers and the public at large\u201d regarding the Gardner post and Barstool article, the suit claimed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It added that people had \u201ccast aspersions on plaintiff and raised questions about her internet activity, especially referencing plaintiff\u2019s alleged \u2014 and non-existent \u2014 OnlyFans account and, in that connection, questioned her character and reputation as a respectable young-women, wife and mother.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The lawsuit is asking for compensatory damages, punitive damages, court costs and fees from both Gardner and Barstool Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A request for comment from the lawyer representing Mariakis was not immediately returned.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gardner\u2019s social media habits have gotten him into trouble before.\u00a0<\/p>\n
