There could be some mutual interest here. A long way to go, but certainly this is one to watch with Mike Vrabel and the Jets.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\tThe Insiders on @NFLGameDay: Mike Vrabel is considered one of the top candidates for the #Jets, who continue their search; #Raiders owner Mark Davis is undecided on the future of Antonio Pierce; The #Browns fired OC Ken Dorsey this morning. pic.twitter.com\/rWASygxE3N\u2014 Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 5, 2025 <\/p>\n<p>But the situation may be changing rather quickly now that the Patriots\u2019 job is open and one NFL reporter seemed to indicate the flirtation with the Jets may have been a ploy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CBS Sports\u2019 Aditi Kinkhabwala reported that the interest in the Jets \u201cwas to put pressure on Patriots to make a move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SportsKeeda\u2019s Tony Pauline reported last week that Vrabel \u201cwants\u201d the Patriots\u2019 head coaching job, even when it looked like Mayo might be retained. <\/p>\n<p>Vrabel played during the dynasty years of the Patriots from 2001-08 as a linebacker and was inducted into the team\u2019s Hall of Fame in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>During his halftime speech in Foxboro during the team\u2019s Hall of Fame celebration Vrabel declared that \u201cwe\u2019ve got a game to win\u201d referring to the Patriots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As head coach of the Titans, Vrabel helped lead Tennessee to a 54-45 record while reaching the AFC Championship and winning the AFC South twice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Athletic, Vrabel described what he\u2019ll be looking for when he accepts his next coaching gig.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s got to be clear communication with ownership, so that we understand as coaches what the expectations are,\u201d Vrabel said. \u201cThat\u2019s so we can explain to them what\u2019s reasonable, what we can do, what we probably can do and what we\u2019re going to try to do \u2014 or die trying. I want to have a structure in place that people see the game the same way I do from an X\u2019s and O\u2019s standpoint, from a personnel standpoint, with team-building.
