CHICAGO \u2014 Tylor Megill\u2019s job remains safe, but the Mets will likely tweak their rotation in another manner this week or next.<\/p>\n
With the team scheduled to play 17 straight days heading into the All-Star break following Thursday\u2019s day off, manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Christian Scott will likely join the rotation as a sixth starter.<\/p>\n
Scott, who returned to Triple-A Syracuse on May 30 following a solid stretch to begin his major league career, would join Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, Jose Quintana, David Peterson and Megill in the rotation.<\/p>\n
Megill had his worst start of the season on Saturday, when he allowed six earned runs in three innings against the Cubs, and has pitched to a 7.64 ERA in his four June starts. <\/p>\n
In two of those starts he failed to complete five innings.<\/p>\n
But Mendoza said there is no immediate plan to remove Megill from the rotation.<\/p>\n
Beyond Scott, the Mets\u2019 organizational starting pitching depth includes Jose Butto, who was effective for the team in April and May. <\/p>\n
Mendoza said the team has faced \u201ctough\u201d decisions in regard to the rotation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose are some of the conversations that we are having because [Scott and Butto] are performing and they performed when they were here,\u201d Mendoza said before the Mets faced the Cubs at Wrigley Field. \u201cBut we have also got guys here that are a huge part of this team, so it\u2019s good to have those depth pieces and they will continue to contribute to this team. They will be ready to go when they are called on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The right-hander is expected to face hitters again later this week, according to Mendoza. <\/p>\n
