They drafted Fashanu with the No. 11-overall pick with the idea that he would not have to play right away and can learn from Smith.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been great,\u201d Smith said recently of his relationship with Fashanu. \u201cHe\u2019s not shy to ask any questions. He\u2019s willing to work. Like today, we were working technique after practice, trying to fine-tune different things because you never know what\u2019s going to happen. In this league, it\u2019s always next guy up. Everybody has to be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
Saleh said Smith\u2019s leadership has been on display already.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s got great leadership,\u201d Saleh said. \u201cI know Olu is soaking up all the information he can get from him, which is awesome. I think all the tackles and O-linemen are gravitating toward him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Smith said his preference is to lead by example, but he enjoys sharing tips with younger players. <\/p>\n
He is not a loud player, though. He was even a bit embarrassed to be doing a press conference this spring.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, I\u2019ve never been a rah-rah type guy,\u201d Smith said. \u201cI try to stay as neutral as possible. For me, I\u2019m always leading by example.
