Hernandez homered on the next pitch to give LA the lead. pic.twitter.com\/iUgr1SqsTq\u2014 Scotty Gange (@Scotty_G6) June 19, 2024<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw a swing \u2014 check-swing, but I thought he went,\u201d said Black, per MLB.com, who was ejected after erupting at the missed call.<\/p>\n<p>The Rockies are not without blame for coughing up a five-run lead in the ninth, even holding a 99 percent chance to win with one out in the inning, per Statcast, but they appeared to get hosed Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers trailed 9-8 and had two on with two outs for Hernandez when reliever Victor Vodnik threw an elevated 99.9-mph fastball that induced a check-swing, with Hernandez seeming to commit to the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>Home plate umpire Will Little checked with Barksdale, the first base umpire, who ruled Hernandez held on the 1-2 offering, shocking most non-Dodgers viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went,\u201d Rockies announcer Drew Goodman said. \u201cOh, man. You got to be kidding me!\u201d Goodman said. \u201cFrom a strikeout to a three-run homer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rockies right fielder Jake Cave immediately turned and pointed at Barksdale after the homer, showing frustration with the non-strikeout.<\/p>\n<p>Cave reportedly had to be restrained later by a teammate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was yelling at [Barksdale] from right during the inning,\u201d Cave said, according to MLB.com. \u201cBut then we made the last out and I\u2019m coming in.
