Hopefully something that continues to build for Anthony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Friday will mark Alex Verdugo\u2019s return to Fenway Park, where he did not get along with manager Alex Cora and got benched twice last season, once for a lack of hustle and once for showing up to a game late.<\/p>\n<p>The outfielder has been a popular character in the Yankees clubhouse and a solid cleanup hitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, he\u2019s a good player,\u201d Boone said about why Verdugo has fit in. \u201cI think our leadership group, certainly our captain in Aaron [Judge], I think [Judge] was really excited to get him and embraced him right away. He\u2019s embraced our group back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s brought an element to that group that\u2019s been really exciting and really strong, as well as playing excellent baseball. He\u2019s been everything we could have hoped for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge (0-for-4 with four strikeouts) snapped a season-high, 37-game on-base streak, which was the longest by any major leaguer this season.<\/p>\n<p>On a sunny and hot day game that followed a night game, Judge was given a half-day off as designated hitter. <\/p>\n<p>Trent Grisham started in center field and Giancarlo Stanton was out of the starting lineup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust picking my spots where I can get [Judge] those occasional days,\u201d Boone said. \u201cAllows me to keep G fresh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gerrit Cole likely will throw 65-70 pitches Friday in Rochester with Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre, Boone said.<\/p>\n<p>In his second and most recent rehab start, the reigning AL Cy Young winner threw 57 pitches in 4 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings. <\/p>\n<p>Boone did not reveal whether his third minor league start would be his final one.<\/p>\n<p>Outfield prospect Everson Pereira, who had not played with SWB since May 19, was placed on the RailRiders\u2019 full-season injured list.
