The simple appeal of Po\u00e8me d\u2019un jour hardly prepares the listener for the subtly complex Verlaine settings of La Bonne Chanson. In Mirages, the music circles in repeating patterns, like ripples in the water, while L\u2019Horizon chim\u00e9rique refines those harmonies to stress Faur\u00e9\u2019s unique musical personality.\u00a0Degout\u2019s high-quality voice and fine legato are a constant pleasure, as is the Pleyel Grand Patron piano from 1892 played by Plan\u00e8s. Among the competition, the intimacy of Dubois\u2019s Faur\u00e9, not to mention his detailed engagement with the poetry, has a strong claim.
