Scott pitched five innings in that outing \u2014 allowing just a run on two hits \u2014 and is scheduled to start again Wednesday for Syracuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see him back here,\u2019\u2019 Mendoza said before the Mets\u2019 4-2 loss to the Marlins at Citi Field.<\/p>\n<p>Another important part of the rotation is also expected back after the All-Star break, with Kodai Senga having thrown his first bullpen session on Sunday since his comeback from a strained shoulder during the spring was interrupted by triceps tightness.<\/p>\n<p>Mendoza said Senga had Monday off and then did some long toss on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The next step, according to Mendoza, will be a second bullpen session either Wednesday or Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019ll continue his progression,\u2019\u2019 the manager said. \u201cNow that he\u2019s getting on a mound, that\u2019s a good sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Diaz is expected back when he\u2019s eligible to come off the 15-day IL on Thursday, Mendoza said.<\/p>\n<p>Diaz has had two rehab appearances with High-A Brooklyn after being sidelined with a right shoulder impingement.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent outing came on Sunday and he threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looked pretty good,\u2019\u2019 Mendoza said. \u201cHe\u2019ll be off [Wednesday] and the plan is to activate him Thursday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s mostly been a rough season for Diaz, who missed all of last season with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee.<\/p>\n<p>After getting off to a solid start, the right-hander was knocked around in four of his last five outings prior to landing on the IL.<\/p>\n<p>Diaz\u2019s velocity remained down during his rehab stint and hasn\u2019t gotten back to the level it was before last year\u2019s injury.<\/p>\n<p>This season, his four-seamer has averaged 97 mph. <\/p>\n<p>During Diaz\u2019s dominant 2022, it was 99.1 mph.<\/p>\n<p>With Diaz out, the Mets have relied on a closer by committee, as four different relievers picked up saves.<\/p>\n<p>Starling Marte had two of the team\u2019s four hits in the loss after sitting Sunday, following his miscue in right field in Saturday\u2019s loss to the Phillies in London.<\/p>\n<p>Mendoza said Sunday was a planned off day for Marte, who he wanted to keep off the turf there in one game.
