We don\u2019t like each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parker called the league\u2019s politics into question during her snub. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a number of players who are deserving \u2026 but how many times are we gonna say it\u2019s unfair?\u201d Parker told reporters at the time. \u201cHow many times are we gonna say it\u2019s not politics? I think we all know that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, what really made her angry was when her longtime Los Angeles Sparks teammate Nneka Ogwumike was left off the roster five years later at the 2021 Tokyo games. <\/p>\n<p>Ogwumike was the 2016 league MVP and WNBA players\u2019 association president, something Parker believed should have earned her the spot back then, and definitely in 2021. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have someone that arguably, maybe [should have been on Team USA in] 2016, but definitely [2020],\u201d Parker said about Ogwumike. \u201cShe\u2019s the only MVP of the league. She went and got MVP of the World Games. And then you leave her off the team?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>USA Today reported\u00a0that Clark\u2019s popularity and the potential reaction from fans to her inevitable lack of playing time on a stacked roster factored into the decision. <\/p>\n<p>Coach Cheryl Reeve\u2019s roster will rely more heavily on veteran players, such as Breanna Stewart,\u00a0A\u2019ja Wilson,\u00a0Napheesa Collier,\u00a0Jewell Loyd\u00a0and\u00a0Chelsea Gray.<\/p>\n<p>Jemele Hill, former ESPN anchor and current writer for the Atlantic, said she believes this decision likely will serve as a much-needed break for Clark, who has been playing non-stop since her final season at Iowa. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, Caitlin Clark not being on this year\u2019s Olympics team is actually a good thing \u2014 FOR HER,\u201d Hill, the former ESPN anchor and current Atlantic writer\u00a0wrote on X on Saturday. \u201cIn the span of weeks, she went from playing college ball, to becoming a professional, to having a grind of schedule. A multi-week break probably isn\u2019t the worst thing in the world.
