Smith isn\u2019t letting the comments made by Monica McNutt go.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ESPN personality addressed the barbs the two traded on \u201cFirst Take\u201d on Monday on his podcast later that night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During a lengthy segment discussing the dustup between Caitlin Clark and Chennedy Carter, Smith tried to boast about how \u201cFirst Take\u201d has extensively covered the WNBA and women\u2019s sports, but McNutt fired back with a comment that cut Smith deep.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStephen A., respectfully, with your platform, you could have been doing this three years ago if you wanted to,\u201d McNutt responded.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The comment stuck with Smith to the point that he spent the early part of his podcast trying to push back on\u00a0McNutt\u2019s comment while on multiple occasions expressing his admiration for his fellow ESPN colleague.<\/p>\n<p>Smith addressed the disagreement with McNutt after a lengthy rant about Clark\u2019s impact on the WNBA, saying that her comments on the ESPN debate show \u201cabsolutely shocked\u201d him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo address Monica McNutt\u2019s point, I found it very unfortunate that she would say that,\u201d Smith started off saying after seemingly expressing annoyance that Molly Qerim interrupted the heated moment to get the program to break.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLadies and gentlemen, I am the executive producer of First Take. You ever heard of Monica McNutt? You have now. Because she\u2019s on First Take a lot. Chiney Ogwumike, absolutely wonderful, spectacular basketball analyst. \u2026 ask her how it\u2019s been to be on First Take. How about Andraya Carter? Who\u2019s a rising star in this business. How much do you think First Take helped that? What about Kimberley Martin? What about Molly Qerim herself?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith continued his response by taking aim at the people that he has \u201ctaken a lot of s\u2013t\u201d from before calling what he felt McNutt had said about him that was \u201chighly offensive\u201d and \u201cfactually incorrect.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI challenge anybody to find a show on sports television that discusses women\u2019s issues that discuss the WNBA, or women\u2019s sports that highlights and profiles female analysts more than \u2018First Take.\u2019 It\u2019s been going on for years,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have black women, we have white women. Mina Kimes, let me not forget to mention her,\u201d Smith added as he attempted to point out the diverse nature of his show. \u201cFirst Take has spearheaded diversity and equity. Do you have any idea how offensive it was for me to sit there and hear Monica McNutt say that about me when I\u2019m the one who hand-picked our roster on \u2018First Take?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephen A. Smith: &#8220;Who talks about the WNBA, who talks about women, who talks about women&#8217;s sports more than First Take?&#8221;Monica McNutt: &#8220;Stephen A., respectfully, with your platform, you could have been doing this three years ago if you wanted to.&#8221; Stephen A.: &#8220;Wow.&#8221; pic.twitter.com\/szQXOPQ3h4\u2014 Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) June 3, 2024<\/p>\n<p>The sports talk host made it a point to point out that his displeasure was only related to the disagreement the pair had on Monday\u2019s show and he heaped praise upon McNutt and called her a friend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Smith also mentioned that he would remain a \u201csupporter\u201d of McNutt\u2019s regardless of their disagreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During his podcast, Smith called her comment \u201cblatantly false\u201d while making sure to explain that he wasn\u2019t saying she was a liar.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m accusing her of not knowing. Because she\u2019s not a liar, she\u2019s an honorable person,\u201d Smith continued. \u201cShe must not have known. The WNBA, could have I done more? Well, guess what, Monica McNutt? I could\u2019ve done less. Who\u2019s done more? Hell, a legitimate argument could be made if the WNBA wasn\u2019t doing it for themself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commissioner of the WNBA came on \u2018First Take\u2019 to thank us for what we were doing for the WNBA.
