Here’s a look at the regions of the women’s NCAA Tournament as March Madness gets set to tip off:

Spokane 1

The skinny

UCLA, the No. 1 overall team in this year’s tournament, is eying its first-ever trip to the Final Four. Cori Close’s team has spent most of the season in the No. 1 spot after knocking out South Carolina in November. LSU and NC State are two formidable threats, though, who could play spoiler to the Bruins’ goal. In 2024, NC State won its regional and LSU was a win away from the Final Four.

Player to watch

Lauren Betts, UCLA: Standing at 6-foot-7, Betts could very well be the best traditional college center since Brittney Griner played at Baylor. Betts, the unanimous 2024-25 Big Ten defensive player of the year, is the Bruins’ anchor. She leads the team in points (19.4) and rebounds (9.7) and set UCLA’s single-season block record with 85 blocks and counting.

Bracket buster

No. 7 Michigan State: After a strong start to the season, things got a little rocky midway through for the Spartans. However, Michigan State finished with a 21-9 record and made some of the best teams in the country sweat, including UCLA, USC and Maryland. Also keep an eye on Grand Canyon, who’s won 30 straight.
