You’ll have a hard time finding a walk-on college athlete more famous than Brandon Dwyer.

After years of growing his online presence with series like his “Road to 1 Point,” it appeared the Florida Gulf Coast senior guard had officially run out of road to score a collegiate bucket when his team was eliminated by Queens College in the Atlantic Sun Tournament on Monday night.

The social media superstar, however, told the Post he plans on playing another year at FGCU after three scoreless college basketball seasons.

“I have another year of eligibility, so I’ll be taking that,” Dwyer said. “I’m definitely staying at FGCU and running it back and having 30 more possible games to get that point.”

Despite being a two-time state champion and having plenty of Division II and Division III suitors out of Sanford School in Delaware, Dwyer elected to fulfill his Division I dreams and take a preferred walk-on spot at La Salle.

After just a year there and appearing in one game, Dwyer followed his coach Pat Chambers to FGCU, joining the team as a walk-on once again.

He initially posted the videos to document the life of a college basketball player, but those — according to Dwyer — “sucked.”

He eventually found a groove with more relatable content and his TikTok page blew up — partly due to another user reposting Dwyer’s video with an added screenshot of Dwyer’s non-existent college stats.

“How do I respond to this?” Dwyer wondered at the time.

Some friends suggested retaliation, but Dwyer decided to lean into it and start “poking fun of” himself about “being a benchwarmer.”

That’s where the viral series began as Dwyer continued his quest to finally score a point.

From home games, to road games, to a tournament in the Virgin Islands, Dwyer said he was recognized by fans and hecklers alike.

“I didn’t get a single minute in that tournament,” Dwyer said of the Paradise Jam event FGCU was in last season.

Yet fans flocked for photos postgame.

“That’s when [my team] kind of realized, like, ‘OK, this is crazy,’” Dwyer said.

Since beginning the documentation of his journey, Dwyer has amassed more than 1 million followers on TikTok and an additional near-500,000 on Instagram.

He’s struck brand deals with companies like Meta, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Tinder, Dr. Pepper and many more.

“All these crazy brands who typically want me to talk about how I don’t play,” Dwyer said. “I think it’s hilarious.”

Even still — he has not recorded a single point across four years.

In eight career appearances, Dwyer played nine minutes and went 0-for-3 from the field. Two of those shot attempts came at FGCU since he began the “Road to 1 Point” TikToks.

He’s missed both shots this season across six games.

In the times that Dwyer did check into games during blowouts, there were mixed reactions from opposing teams as Dwyer hunted for a bucket.

In a 26-point win against Stetson, Dwyer says the opposing coaches screamed, “Don’t let him touch the ball!” as Dwyer checked in.

“Bro, I hope you score — but it’s not gonna be on me,” one player said to Dwyer.

“On the flip side, I’ll get people like, ‘If they set a down screen for you I’ll go under and you’ll get your shot,’” Dwyer said.

The dream will go on beyond this season and Dwyer also mentioned that there’s a good chance FGCU will be in this year’s College Basketball Invitational (CBI) tournament, giving another chance, or a few, at cracking the scoresheet.

“Somehow people are invested in me to score a single basket,” Dwyer said. “I gotta give myself another shot.”
