Fordham has levied head coach Keith Urgo a four-game suspension in response to violations against the NCAA’s recruiting guidelines, the team announced on Thursday.

Associate coach Tray Woodall will assume head coaching duties in Urgo’s absence, which is set to begin Jan. 22.

“As part of an ongoing investigation with the NCAA, Fordham is self-imposing a four-game suspension for men’s basketball coach Keith Urgo beginning January 22, consistent with the updated NCAA guidelines related to recruiting violations,” the school said in a statement.

“Fordham has and will continue lending full cooperation to the NCAA during their investigation, including following the NCAA’s bylaws to maintain confidentiality. Therefore, we’re unable to share any more details on the matter at this time.”

The Rams (8-10 overall; 0-5 in Atlantic 10 play) are up against the Loyola Ramblers (Jan. 22), the Duquesne Dukes (Jan. 26), the La Salle Explorers (Jan. 29) and the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (Feb. 1) for the next four games without Urgo.

Urgo’s suspension comes just one day after Fordham’s 120-118 loss in triple-overtime — which set numerous records — to the UMass Minutemen on Wednesday.

On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Rams’ historic Rose Hill gym, UMass senior Rahsool Diggins set a program record with 46 points.

His performance also marked the most points ever scored at Fordham by an opposing player, a record previously held by NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving, who posted 37 points for the Minutemen back in 1970.

The Rams’ 118 points in the loss was the most the program had ever scored at home.

And the Minutemen, with 120, set a new record for points scored by a Fordham opponent.

Urgo is in his third season as the Rams’ head coach.

After an uber-promising 2022-23 campaign that saw Fordham finish with an overall record of 25-8 — including 12-6 in conference play — the Rams mustered only 13 wins in 2023-24.

Across two full seasons and 18 games in the 2024-25 season, Urgo’s Rams have 46-38 mark, including 18-23 against conference competition.

Prior to his stint at Fordham, Urgo served as an assistant coach with Penn State and, before that, Villanova.
