The Kansas City Chiefs went down rather meekly in Super Bowl 2025 and Patriots superfan Dave Portnoy certainly won’t let them — and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes — live this one down.
“Emergency press conference, still third quarter, but the Chiefs have embarrassed themselves on a national scale,” Portnoy, who founded Barstool Sports, said in a video he posted on social media. “Absolutely demolished by the Eagles. Patrick Mahomes looks like a JV quarterback,”
Mahomes looked like a shell of himself in the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Eagles on Sunday as his offensive line completely collapsed, being sacked six times, the most in a single game in his NFL career.
Portnoy used Sunday’s loss to drive home his view that Mahomes and these Chiefs cannot be compared to Tom Brady’s dynasty Patriots.

“Now, it doesn’t take away from the fact they got three titles. It does stop the conversation … people comparing the New England Patriots’ dynasty and the Chiefs’ dynasty, they don’t even belong on the same field,” Portnoy said.
“The Chiefs would never ever beat the Patriots dynasty, not in a million years. Patrick Mahomes is not Tom Brady. Tom Brady has never puked on himself how Patrick Mahomes just did. And I know Patrick Mahomes don’t like Barstool, big deal, but that’s not why. He was awful. Couldn’t rise up, horrible throws. No protection, fine. Brady would have found a way.”
Portnoy was previously annoyed that Mahomes was setting up an interview with the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, which is hosted by ex-NFLers Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, during Super Bowl week following their departure from Barstool.
Portnoy added that the Patriots have “never embarrassed themselves like that in a big game ever. They have never been blown out like that in a Super Bowl.”
Brady and the Patriots lost their three Super Bowls by a total of 15 points.
The current ring count stands at Brady with seven — including his Buccaneers’ Super Bowl triumph against the Chiefs — and Mahomes with three after the dismantling.
Portnoy wants the Chiefs to wave the white flag on this debate after Sunday’s embarrassing performance cost them opportunity to be the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era.
Mahomes finished with 257 passing yards and three touchdowns along with two interceptions Sunday, although that stat sheet is a bit misleading.
Mahomes completed just 6-of-14 passes for a carere-worst 33 passing yards at the half while trailing, 24-0, and also tossed two interceptions, including a pivotal pick-six in the second quarter.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP is now 3-2 in Super Bowls in his career, but the two losses have come by a combined 40 points.
