Tiger Woods has suffered yet another devastating injury that will sideline him for a long time.

The 49-year-old announced Tuesday afternoon that he suffered a ruptured left Achilles and underwent surgery to repair it Tuesday morning.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods said in a statement posted to social media. “This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.

Woods quoted Stucken in the statement as saying the surgery “went smoothly” and he expects “a full recovery.”

Woods says he has returned home.

While he’s recently been playing in TGL events, he pulled out of his initially scheduled return to the PGA Tour last month at the Genesis Invitational following the death of his mother, Kultida.

Woods has been hampered by back and leg injuries in recent years.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
