Did you really expect Deion Sanders not to have a say?

And at least he’s admitting it publicly.

The NFL Hall of Famer turned Colorado Buffaloes head coach confirmed in an interview with the Dan Patrick Show on Friday that he already told multiple NFL teams not to draft his son Shedeur Sanders, who is in contention to be one of the top picks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

“I would meet with them behind closed doors,” Sanders said nine minutes in to Dan Patrick. “I would not call them out. I would not put them on front street and talk about their organization because people work too hard to make it right instead of a guy like me ignorantly saying something wrong. I would meet with them privately and talk about my concerns so we can have an understanding.”

Despite the growing buzz around the younger Sanders’ potential as a dynamic quarterback prospect, Coach Prime clearly wants to make sure he’s headed to the right organization, which is obviously paramount in regards to development.

In April’s draft, the quarterback-needy Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 overall pick, and The Athletic previously reported that the team met with Shedeur for “a longer time than usual” at the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Coach Sanders was also involved, according to the report.

The Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars round out the draft’s top five, though it appears unlikely that the latter two teams go quarterback searching, whether it would be Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward.

Sanders finished his 2024 season with 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
