Apple has announced a special event on September 9 where the iPhone 16 is expected to be launched. The event will be called “It’s Glowtime” and will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park at 10 am PT. The event will also be streamed online, but the exact details of what “glowtime” refers to are not yet clear. It is expected that embedded artificial intelligence will be a key feature of the latest iPhone.

In June, Apple unveiled generative AI features for the iPhone at its Worldwide Developers Conference. These features include personalized Genmoji and a smarter Siri that can answer questions about schedules and emails. While iPhone 15 Pro Max users may have access to some AI features, the iPhone 16 is expected to be the first device designed fully with AI in mind. Apple also announced a partnership with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, at the conference.

Artificial intelligence has been integrated into some iPhone features for years, such as Live Text and an improved autocorrect function. The enhanced generative AI in the upcoming iPhone could build upon these features to enhance interaction and personalization. However, CFRA Research technology analyst Angelo Zino believes that the outlook for the iPhone 16 is muted, as the new AI features will be rolled out gradually over the next few years. Enhanced Siri may not be available until 2025.

Generative AI enables tools to create written work, images, and audio in response to user prompts. This technology could potentially transform the way users interact with their iPhones and personalize their experience. Apple’s partnership with OpenAI indicates a commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology. The iPhone 16 is expected to be the first device specifically built with AI features in mind, setting a new standard for future smartphones. Despite the gradual rollout of AI features, the evolutionary process of integrating AI into the iPhone may lead to significant advancements in user experience.
