Anya Taylor-Joy opened up about the emotional difficulties she faced while filming the upcoming Mad Max spinoff, Furiosa. She described feeling extremely isolated and struggling with aspects of the production that she had anticipated would be easier. Taylor-Joy expressed relief that she had two years between wrapping production and the film’s release to deal with the challenges she faced on set, hinting at the intensity of the experience.

Despite her struggles, Taylor-Joy had a deep admiration for director George Miller and his vision for the character of Furiosa. She revealed that Miller had a very specific idea of how he wanted the character to be portrayed, focusing on conveying emotion through her eyes rather than dialogue. The actress reportedly only has 30 lines of dialogue in the 2-hour and 28-minute film, echoing the fast-paced and action-oriented style of the Mad Max series.

Taylor-Joy, however, found herself at odds with Miller’s vision at times, particularly when it came to portraying Furiosa’s emotions. She stated that she is a strong advocate for female rage and felt strongly about incorporating a scream into the film, despite facing resistance. While disagreements were resolved amicably on set, Taylor-Joy acknowledged that ultimately, the director’s vision takes precedence.

The actress emphasized that she approached her disagreements with Miller respectfully and was always open to discussions about the character and story. Despite any challenges she faced, Taylor-Joy expressed that she does not regret her involvement in the film and feels that she grew and changed as a result of the intense filming process. She noted a shared understanding among those who have worked on a Mad Max film, describing a unique kinship and recognition among individuals who have been a part of the franchise.
