An animal organization called Paws For Hope Animal Foundation is facing an increasing number of calls from people who need to surrender their pets due to financial or housing challenges. The organization’s No Pet Left Behind program provides temporary foster care for pets while their owners work to get back on their feet. However, due to the full shelters, they are struggling to find places to rehome pets. The organization tries not to accept owner surrenders to prioritize those who need temporary foster care, but they understand the difficulties people are facing.

Many pet owners are losing their pet-friendly housing and struggling to find affordable housing that allows pets. Additionally, the rising cost of living is making it increasingly challenging for people to care for their pets, especially when unexpected veterinary issues arise. Last weekend, a two-year-old dog was found tied to the gates of a shelter in Aldergrove, as the owner had to undergo medical treatment and could no longer take care of the dog. The organization is receiving more calls lately, especially for dogs, but finding space in shelters is difficult as they are already full.

Cassie Preston, the program manager for the No Pet Left Behind program, explained that rehoming dogs is particularly challenging compared to cats. She mentioned that they struggle with having enough foster homes available, making it difficult to accommodate all the pets in need. Preston is currently fostering a Golden Retriever puppy named Primrose, whose owner realized they were allergic to the dog. She highlighted the rewarding experience of fostering an animal, emphasizing the importance of helping pets settle into a new environment and providing them with care and love.

The organization is working hard to keep owners and pets together, promoting the idea of temporary foster care while addressing the challenges faced by pet families. They aim to prevent unnecessary surrendering of pets by providing support and resources to those in need. Despite the obstacles and full shelters, the organization continues to advocate for the importance of fostering animals and helping pets find temporary homes until their owners can take them back. This initiative not only benefits the pets but also provides a fulfilling experience for the foster families involved. By raising awareness and offering solutions, Paws For Hope Animal Foundation hopes to reduce the number of pets being surrendered due to financial or housing obstacles.

As the demand for pet surrendering services increases, the organization faces the challenge of finding enough foster homes to accommodate all the animals in need. The rising costs of pet care, along with housing issues, are contributing to the difficulties faced by pet owners in keeping their animals. The No Pet Left Behind program continues to provide temporary foster care as a solution to help families reunite with their pets. By advocating for responsible pet ownership and offering support during times of crisis, the organization strives to make a positive impact on both pets and their owners. Despite the challenges, Paws For Hope Animal Foundation remains committed to its mission of keeping families and pets together.
