America First Policy Institute (AFPI) has unveiled a new agenda called H.O.P.E. that aims to empower women in various challenging situations, including unexpected pregnancies, fertility issues, adoption, and more. This initiative comes following former President Trump’s recent statement that the issue of abortion should be decided by the states. The agenda focuses on providing health, opportunity, prosperity, and empowerment for women and aims to reduce the number of abortions while offering support in difficult situations such as mental health needs surrounding pregnancy and abortion.
The 20-point plan of the H.O.P.E. agenda includes provisions for healthcare access for women and babies at all stages of pregnancy, mental health support, and access to IVF treatments. It also addresses legal and financial barriers to adoption and foster care through tax credits and aims to improve outcomes and reduce maternal mortality. Additionally, the plan seeks to prioritize the health of women and their babies and provides counseling for women before they undergo abortions. The agenda also aims to address financial barriers for women seeking fertility treatments or pursuing adoption.
AFPI’s president and CEO, Brooke Rollins, highlighted that the pro-life movement has achieved success in returning decisions regarding abortion policies to state-elected representatives through the Dobbs decision. She emphasized the importance of compassionately caring for the lives of both women and unborn children. Rollins stated that the agenda proposal aims to uphold the sanctity of every life and offer support to individuals facing financial barriers or seeking fertility treatments, ensuring access to the journey of parenthood for all. The organization aims to provide care and support to individuals in unique situations.
AFPI is a 501C3 nonprofit, non-partisan research institute focused on advancing policies that prioritize the American people. The institute is led by senior leaders from the Trump administration, including Rollins and former Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon. The issue of abortion is expected to be a prominent issue in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, particularly with the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, returning the issue back to the states for the first time in nearly 50 years. The agenda affirms long-standing exceptions to abortion bans and focuses on providing support to women, children, and individuals pursuing parenthood.
The H.O.P.E. agenda also includes provisions to ensure that companies that cover abortion costs also provide the same level of coverage for pro-family measures such as fertility treatments and adoption. It aims to make it easier for expectant mothers to claim tax deductions for children the year they were conceived, potentially saving mothers thousands of dollars. The agenda also emphasizes the importance of supporting pregnancy resource centers, community health centers, and ensuring that babies born alive receive life-saving medical care. Overall, the initiative seeks to prioritize a broader set of pro-life and pro-family principles that support the well-being of women, children, and families.
