AMD announced new artificial intelligence chips at the Computex tech conference in Taipei, emphasizing AI as their number one priority. These new chips include the Ryzen AI 300 series for next-generation AI laptops and the Ryzen 9000 series for desktops. Partnering with Microsoft, these chips will power laptops with the AI chatbot Copilot. AMD plans to launch both lines in July, following the April announcement of new processors designed to run AI workloads.

In a race with competitors like Nvidia, AMD detailed its data center chip roadmap. The Instinct MI325X accelerators, set for availability in the fourth quarter, are an enhanced version of the MI300 series. The Instinct MI350 series is scheduled for release in 2025, followed by the Instinct MI400 series in 2026. AMD also teased the upcoming fifth-generation EPYC server processors, expected to be launched in the second half of this year, continuing their leadership in performance and efficiency with the EPYC processor family.

Nvidia unveiled its next generation of AI chips, the “Rubin” series, just a day before AMD’s announcement. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has committed to releasing new AI chip technology annually, instead of every two years as previously done. Like Nvidia, AMD outsources the manufacturing of its chips to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The Ryzen AI 300, Ryzen 9000, and 5th-gen EPYC chips will be built on the latest “Zen 5” architecture.
