The TV show Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the book series by Rick Riordan, was renewed for a second season on Disney+ shortly after the first season finale aired in January 2024. The upcoming season is expected to follow the events of the second Percy Jackson novel, The Sea of Monsters. The protagonist, Percy Jackson, discovers he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon and sets off on a quest to clear his name after being accused of stealing Zeus’ Master Bolt, along with his demigod friend Annabeth Chase and satyr protector Grover Underwood.

A teaser trailer for Percy Jackson season 2 was released at the D23 Expo in August 2024, hinting at an epic battle to come. The second season will likely be set one year after the events of season 1 and will follow Percy’s journey back to Camp Half-Blood to save the magical tree protecting the barriers of the camp from being poisoned. The quest involves retrieving The Golden Fleece from the Sea of Monsters, a powerful Greek artifact that can heal any living thing. Grover sets off on his own quest to find the god of the wild, Pan, after receiving his searcher’s license at the end of season 1.

While an official premiere date has not been announced for Percy Jackson season 2, filming started in the summer of 2024, and Disney+ confirmed that they expected the show to return in 2025. The main trio of actors – Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri – are set to return for season 2, along with other returning cast members such as Toby Stephens and Jason Mantzoukas. New characters introduced in the upcoming season include Percy’s classmate Tyson, played by Daniel Diemer, and a variety of dangerous creatures and mythical beings.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, it was revealed that new cast members Kristen Schaal, Margaret Cho, and Sandra Bernhard would be joining the show as the eccentric Gray Sisters. The future of Percy Jackson and the Olympians beyond season 2 is uncertain, but the possibility of adapting more of Riordan’s books is being considered. The original five Percy Jackson books were released between 2005 and 2009, followed by The Heroes of Olympus series and a sixth Percy Jackson installment in 2023. A seventh book, Wrath of the Triple Goddess, is set to be released in September 2024, expanding the universe even further.
