A city council member in Alabama kicked all residents out of a meeting after they asked questions about the recent arrival of Haitian migrants to the community. Sylacauga City Council President Tiffany Nix adjourned the meeting when several attendees pressed the council on the illegal immigrant issue. The last speaker, David Phillips, barely got to speak before Nix cut him off, causing him to describe the action as “totalitarian” and “un-American”. Nix defended the migrants being in the town and believed they should be welcomed as contributors to society, despite residents claiming some arrived via bus.

President Nix claimed the council had no information about how the migrants arrived and did not see the need to investigate their presence. She expressed a welcoming attitude towards anyone who wants to come and did not see any issue with the migrants not working as expected. When residents pointed out that the migrants were supposed to come to work but were just sitting around outside, Nix dismissed their concerns and defended their presence in the community, leading to frustrations and accusations that nothing gets done during city council meetings.

A resident challenged Nix’s response to the migrants not working and pointed out that the council was treating them like lawful U.S. citizens even though they were not. Before he could continue speaking, Nix abruptly called for the meeting to be adjourned and asked all residents to leave, leading to shocked reactions from the attendees. Residents expressed disbelief at the council’s conduct, with some stating it was a violation of public law to cut off public comments in the middle of a meeting.

The residents could be heard groaning and complaining in the background as Nix made the decision to adjourn the meeting. Despite the objections raised by residents and the interruption of public comments, Nix did not provide a response when contacted by Fox News Digital for comment on the incident. The actions taken by President Nix during the meeting caused outrage among residents who felt their concerns were not being addressed by the council, leading to accusations of a lack of transparency and openness in the decision-making process. The incident highlighted tensions in the community regarding the arrival of Haitian migrants and the lack of clarity from city officials on how to address the issue.
