Vancouver-based startup Topicflow recently secured $1.8 million in funding from Seattle venture capital firms Founders’ Co-op and Ascend. The funding will be used to support the growth of Topicflow’s software platform, which focuses on helping companies manage performance reviews in a more efficient and effective manner. Founded in 2022, Topicflow offers an AI-powered platform that emphasizes continuous feedback within the flow of everyday work, rather than relying on the traditional annual review process.

The 6-person team at Topicflow has already attracted a number of paying customers who utilize the platform for a variety of functions including 1-on-1s, team meetings, goal-setting, KPI tracking, and performance reviews. By leveraging AI technology, Topicflow is able to provide features such as automated reminders for performance conversations, analysis of meeting transcripts, gathering peer feedback, and ensuring compliance with company processes. Additionally, the platform can help identify underperforming employees or those who may be at risk of leaving the company.

One of the key aspects of Topicflow is its integration with various enterprise software tools, such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Jira, Asana, and Salesforce. This integration allows for seamless communication and data sharing across different platforms, making it easier for users to access relevant information and stay organized. By providing a central repository for performance data that is continuously updated throughout the year, Topicflow aims to eliminate the need for annual reviews and provide a more real-time approach to performance management.

Topicflow’s co-founder and CEO, Amin Palizban, has previous experience in the performance management software industry, having founded and led 7Geese before it was acquired by Paycor in 2020. Palizban, along with co-founders Tony Angerilli and Maxime Parmentier, decided to launch Topicflow as a way to address the shortcomings of existing performance review software. Palizban expressed dissatisfaction with traditional performance review tools, noting that they are often disliked by employees, managers, and HR departments due to their time-consuming nature and lack of integration with existing tools.

According to Palizban, many existing competitors in the performance management software space are simply repackaging outdated products with AI features, rather than truly innovating in the field. He believes that Topicflow’s focus on data-driven continuous feedback and integration with popular enterprise tools sets it apart from the competition. With Founders’ Co-op leading the seed round of funding and additional investments from Fortson, Topicflow has received a total of $2.2 million in funding to date. The company is poised for growth as it continues to expand its customer base and enhance its platform’s capabilities.
