The first major swing state poll conducted after former President Trump’s guilty verdict in New York City shows that Georgia voters currently favor Trump over Biden in a head-to-head matchup. The Quinnipiac University poll, released on Wednesday, indicates that Trump leads Biden by a margin of 49% to 44%. When independent presidential candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, as well as Libertarian Party’s Chase Oliver and Green Party’s Jill Stein are included, Trump’s lead grows to 43% to 37%. The independent vote is evenly split between Trump and Biden at 45% each.

A significant 50% of voters agreed with the guilty verdict against Trump, while 44% disagreed. However, 54% stated that the verdict would not impact their vote, with 23% more likely to vote for Trump as a result. Only 22% of respondents, primarily Democrats, said the verdict would make them less likely to support the former president. Independent and Republican voters were less likely to be swayed, as only 18% of independents and 5% of Republicans stated that the verdict made them less likely to support Trump.

In regards to Trump’s election interference case in Fulton County, 54% of respondents believed that Trump did nothing illegal, while 25% believed he acted unethically. Forty-one percent thought that Trump did commit something illegal. Trump has a significant advantage over Biden on various top issues such as immigration, the economy, the Israel-Hamas war, and the war between Russia and Ukraine, with voters believing he would handle these issues better. However, Biden had a slight edge over Trump on the issue of abortion.

Biden’s job approval in Georgia currently stands at 36%, with 60% disapproving of his performance. The poll highlights Trump’s lead over Biden in Georgia as the first significant indication of voter sentiment following the former president’s guilty verdict. As the general election approaches in November, these results may have implications for the candidates’ campaign strategies and voter outreach efforts in the swing state of Georgia. It remains to be seen how Trump’s guilty verdict will further impact voter decisions as the election season progresses.
