The Mississauga mayoral byelection has commenced with the first round of advance voting taking place. Voters had the opportunity to cast their ballots at Mississauga City Hall on Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional advance voting locations across the city will be open on June 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eligible voters will have the chance to vote for mayor, while those in Ward 5 can also vote for their local councillor. A total of 20 candidates are in the running to become the next mayor of Mississauga.

To expedite the voting process, the City of Mississauga advises residents to verify their voter registration beforehand or bring their voter notification card with accurate information if they received one in the mail. Additionally, voters must bring a piece of identification, such as an Ontario driver’s licence, photo card, cancelled personalized cheque, insurance policy or statement, or any other acceptable document as deemed by the province. For those unable to vote at an advance poll or on election day, they have the option of appointing a proxy to vote on their behalf. The proxy must be eligible to vote in Mississauga, and both the voter and the proxy must complete and certify a form before 5 p.m. on election day.
