Memorial Day, taking place on the last Monday of May, is a federal holiday that honors members of the US armed forces who have died while serving. This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 27, marking the unofficial start of summer as students and office workers enjoy a day off to commemorate those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

On Memorial Day, most national retailers will be open for business. Stores like Walmart and Target will be operating on regular hours, while Food Lion locations and most Kroger grocery stores will also be open. However, Aldi stores will be running on limited hours and all Costco warehouse stores will be closed. It’s a good idea to check with local grocers and retailers for any closures or modified operating hours on Memorial Day.

Financial markets, including the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, will be closed on Memorial Day. Additionally, since it’s a banking holiday, the Federal Reserve and most major banks will also be closed. However, ATMs and online banking services will still be available for use, allowing customers access to their accounts even though physical branches may not be open.

In terms of mail and shipping services, the United States Postal Service will not be delivering mail on Memorial Day. Most UPS shipping services will also not be available, with limited stores open for access to UPS express critical for emergency shipments that require fast delivery. Similarly, FedEx services will be closed on Memorial Day, except for custom critical for urgent, sensitive, or potentially hazardous shipments.

As Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember those who have served and sacrificed for the country, it’s important to take time to reflect on the significance of the day. Whether participating in local events and parades, visiting memorials, or simply spending time with loved ones, Memorial Day is a time to appreciate the freedoms that have been secured by the brave men and women who have served in the US armed forces.
