Nearly 60 people, including five Singaporeans, are still receiving medical treatment in three hospitals in Bangkok after sustaining injuries on a Singapore Airlines flight hit by severe turbulence. Twenty patients are in intensive care units, while the other 38 are receiving in-patient care. Two of the Singaporeans are in ICU.
The patients have been spread out across three hospitals – Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, and Bangkok Hospital. Twenty-seven patients had been discharged as of Wednesday afternoon. Singapore Airlines mentioned that five passengers from the flight will return to Singapore, while one crew member will fly back on Thursday. As of now, 74 passengers and six crew members, including families and loved ones, are still in Bangkok.
At Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, nine patients underwent surgery on Tuesday, with five more scheduled for Wednesday. The hospital is a 20-minute drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport and is part of the Samitivej private healthcare group that offers a range of medical services for both Thai and foreign nationals.
Nine Malaysians are currently receiving medical attention in Bangkok hospitals, with six in total in ICU. One Malaysian patient is in ICU at Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital, two are in the in-patient department, and at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, five are in ICU and one is in the in-patient department. The Malaysian patients, aged from 31 to 65 years, are receiving treatment for head, neck, and spinal injuries.
A Malaysian embassy official mentioned that the Malaysian patients are not in life-threatening situations, with one elderly female passenger being unconscious. One male crew member has undergone two surgeries, and his family will be flying to Bangkok to see him. The patients are receiving care at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, which is well-equipped to transfer patients to the airport quickly.
