Tesla provided an update on its electric semitruck project at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Las Vegas. The company confirmed that deliveries of the Tesla Semi to customers are on track for 2026 and provided details on the truck’s range and payload capacity. Tesla is currently conducting pilot testing with PepsiCo’s FritoLay division, with plans to ramp up production to 50,000 units per year at a factory in Nevada. The Semis in testing have achieved long-range runs of up to 520 miles with a vehicle weight of 82,000 lbs.

Tesla stock rose 4.5% following the update, as investors reacted positively to the news. The company’s long-range Semi is expected to have a range of up to 500 miles with a 23,000-lb vehicle weight, while the standard-range truck can travel 300 miles with a 20,000-lb weight. In real-world testing, the trucks were able to cover more than 1000 miles in a 24-hour period thanks to fast charging capabilities. The Semi test fleet has accumulated 3.5 million test miles, with Tesla using the trucks for deliveries in extreme weather and mountainous regions.

The update on the Tesla Semi comes as the company shifts its focus to other projects, including the robotaxi program and the development of the low-cost Model 2 car. Tesla has also made cuts across its business, notably in its Supercharger unit, as it looks to streamline operations. Shareholders are set to vote on CEO Elon Musk’s proposed pay package, which could be worth tens of billions of dollars, ahead of the annual meeting on June 13. The company continues to make progress on its various initiatives as it looks to solidify its position in the electric vehicle market.

Overall, the Tesla Semi project is progressing according to plan, with deliveries to customers expected in 2026. The trucks have shown impressive performance in testing, with the ability to cover long distances with heavy cargo loads. The update on the Semi, along with other developments at Tesla, has been well-received by investors, leading to a boost in the company’s stock price. Tesla remains focused on innovation and growth as it works towards achieving its long-term goals in the electric vehicle industry.
