The Memorial Day weekend forecast for 2024 looks promising for much of the U.S., including the Northeast, Southeast, and West. This forecast is especially important for the 43.8 million Americans expected to travel 50 miles or more from home for the holiday weekend. In the Northeast, little to no rain is expected with mild temperatures, making it an ideal time for outdoor plans. New York is expected to have cooler temperatures in the upper 60s and mid-70s throughout the weekend.

The Southeast is expected to stay hot and mostly dry, making it a good time to head to the beach or pool for the holiday weekend. The hot temperatures in Florida, Georgia, and other Southeastern states are expected to continue into next weekend, with more 90-degree days forecasted for Miami and Jacksonville. Atlanta is expected to have temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.

Meanwhile, the Central U.S. could face stormy weather once again, with the possibility of a derecho bringing extreme wind gusts and hail to the region. Major cities like Denver, St. Louis, and Chicago might see thunderstorms on May 25. Past Memorial Day weekends in Chicagoland have seen highs of 95 degrees in 2018 and 2012, but this year is expected to be milder with temperatures in the 70s.

In the West, Western states are more likely to experience springlike temperatures rather than summerlike temperatures for the holiday weekend. Rain or snow is unlikely across the region, making it a great time for outdoor activities. Southern California and New Mexico are expected to have a beautiful weekend. Overall, the Memorial Day forecast for 2024 looks favorable for a majority of the U.S., with mild temperatures and little to no rain expected in many regions.
