A Florida man, Gregory Brian McGall, was arrested after allegedly carjacking an EMS vehicle and crashing it on the southbound Interstate 75 exit ramp to westbound Interstate 4. The vehicle, which was stolen, was later found abandoned after McGall led law enforcement on a chase before evading them. Days later, McGall was seen in a Nissan Altima being driven by Jerry Skidmore, who had active arrest warrants. Deputies stopped the car at a gas station, where both men attempted to flee, but were apprehended.

McGall faces charges including criminal mischief, grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, carjacking, and aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. Skidmore, on the other hand, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, two counts of fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, and two counts of driving with a canceled license. American Medical Response (AMR) expressed gratitude towards the Florida Highway Patrol and Hillsborough County Sheriffs for their efforts in addressing the incident and ensuring the safety of their patients and teams.

The carjacking and subsequent joyride involving the stolen EMS vehicle were part of a series of incidents that unfolded on the interstate, leading to a statewide crackdown on such criminal activities during the spring break season. Authorities reported that the stolen pickup truck involved in the initial crash was later determined to have been stolen as well. McGall’s reckless behavior not only endangered the lives of numerous individuals but also caused significant damage to property, resulting in the various charges filed against him.

Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies were involved in pursuing McGall and Skidmore, leading to a dramatic confrontation at a gas station where they attempted to evade arrest. Video footage captured from a law enforcement helicopter depicted the moment when deputies stopped the Nissan Altima and confronted the suspects. The swift response from authorities ultimately resulted in the apprehension of both men, preventing any further escalation of the situation and ensuring public safety.

The incident highlights the dangers of carjacking and joyriding, particularly when emergency vehicles are involved. The stolen EMS vehicle was equipped with a camera system that alerted AMR when it crashed, aiding in the investigation and locating the abandoned vehicle. McGall’s actions not only endangered himself but also posed a threat to other motorists on the road. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies and private companies like AMR is crucial in addressing such incidents and ensuring the safety and security of the community.

Overall, the arrest of McGall and Skidmore serves as a reminder of the importance of swift and decisive action by law enforcement in apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities. The charges filed against them reflect the seriousness of their actions and the potential consequences of engaging in reckless behavior. The cooperation between different agencies and organizations involved in responding to the incident underscores the collective effort to maintain public safety and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
