The 77th annual Cannes Film Festival kicked off in the South of France with several A-list stars gracing the red carpet. Anya Taylor-Joy was spotted on the first day, attending the world premiere of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” on Wednesday where she plays the young Imperator Furiosa. This prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road” stars Chris Hemsworth as Dr. Dementus and is directed by George Miller, set to open in U.S. theaters on May 24.

Legendary actress Meryl Streep made her return to Cannes after 35 years to receive an honorary Palme d’Or from French film luminary Juliette Binoche. Streep received a standing ovation and reflected on her career saying, “ So many faces and so many places that I remember.” Meanwhile, the opening spotlight was on the premiere of French film “Le Deuxième Acte (The Second Act)” where Hollywood stars like Eva Green, Greta Gerwig, Lily Gladstone, and Jane Fonda were in attendance.

A comedy film, “The Second Act,” stars Léa Seydoux and also features Hollywood legends like Giancarlo Esposito and Heidi Klum. Notably, French film star Omar Sy took a selfie with Cannes jury president Greta Gerwig at the premiere. The festival will run until May 25, with George Lucas set to be honored with an honorary Palme d’Or on the closing night. Additionally, Messi, the dog from the Best Picture Oscar-nominated film “Anatomy of a Fall,” made a red carpet appearance, following his attendance at the Oscars ceremony in March.

Jane Fonda, Giancarlo Esposito, and Heidi Klum were also present. Another star-studded film at the festival is “Megalopolis,” featuring an ensemble cast and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. French singer and model Alicia Aylies and model Heidi Klum were also in attendance, adding glamor to the event. The Cannes Film Festival will be honoring Star Wars creator George Lucas with an honorary Palme d’Or on its closing night.
