Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker recently criticized President Biden during a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas. Butker called out Biden’s support for abortion despite being a practicing Catholic. He also addressed the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and various other political, religious, and cultural issues.

During his speech, Butker highlighted how bad leadership and policies have negatively impacted society, with COVID-19 being just one example. He mentioned that issues such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, and cultural values have all been affected by disorder stemming from poor leadership.

Butker specifically targeted Biden for his support of abortion, stating that the president publicly proclaims his Catholic faith while also supporting pro-abortion views. He pointed out Biden’s use of the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally, which Catholics typically use during prayer. Butker emphasized that being Catholic should not automatically mean supporting pro-choice views.

The NFL player encouraged the graduating students to speak out against what he sees as declining morals and to stop pretending that being part of the “Church of nice” is enough. He urged them to take a stand against objectionable ideologies and to not just adhere to the label of being Catholic without taking meaningful action.

Biden, who is America’s second Catholic president, has been vocal in his support for abortion rights and has called for voters to re-elect him in 2024 and elect a Democratic-controlled House and Senate. He aims to codify the right to abortion nationwide following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

Butker’s speech at Benedictine College sparked controversy, with his strong stance against Biden’s support for abortion drawing attention. His remarks highlighted the perceived conflict between Biden’s Catholic faith and his pro-abortion views, prompting discussions on the role of religion in politics and leadership decisions. The speech also shed light on the importance of taking a stand on issues of morality and ethics, even in the face of opposition.
