U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish, expressed his strong opinion that Israel should not receive any more American aid for its war in Gaza, citing violations of international and American law. He criticized Hamas as a “disgusting terrorist organization” but also condemned Israel for its actions against the Palestinian people, including the killing and injuring of thousands and the destruction of housing, infrastructure, and hospitals. Sanders warned of the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, with hundreds of thousands of children facing starvation.

Sanders pointed out the clear violation of the Foreign Assistance Act by any entity that blocks U.S. humanitarian aid, and he emphasized that such entities should not receive military aid from the United States. He criticized the idea of Israel invading Rafah despite international warnings of the humanitarian disaster it would create, and he expressed concern about the country becoming increasingly isolated in terms of support due to its actions. Sanders stressed the need to defeat Hamas but not to cause the enormous destruction currently seen in Gaza.

In response to questions about a non-military way to deal with Hamas, Sanders reiterated the goal of defeating the organization without causing widespread destruction. He highlighted the need for a more humane approach to resolving the conflict and addressing the suffering of the Palestinian people. Sanders’ comments reflect his strong stance on the Israel-Gaza conflict and his advocacy for a peaceful and just resolution that prioritizes humanitarian concerns over military actions.
