Doors Open Guelph is set to return for its 22nd year on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free annual event provides the public with an opportunity to explore the inside of some of Guelph’s significant buildings and heritage sites. The event aims to give people a glimpse into the architectural and cultural significance of the city’s buildings and allow them to learn more about what happens behind closed doors. This year, buildings such as city hall and the provincial courthouse will be featured, along with two new additions: 404 York Road, housing Lost Aviators Coffee, Artworks Gallery, and Ed Video, as well as the Guelph City Greenhouses where downtown planters are grown.

Leading up to the full day of site exploration, an event will take place on April 26 from 5 p.m. to midnight at the Guelph Civic Museum. This event will feature live performances, interactive experiences, and behind-the-scenes tours, providing a preview of what visitors can expect during Doors Open Guelph. According to Tammy Adkins, the City’s manager of museums and culture, this event is a great opportunity to celebrate arts and culture in Guelph. Doors Open Guelph offers residents and visitors alike the chance to see parts of the Royal City that are not typically accessible to the public, allowing them to delve into the history and vibrancy of the city’s buildings and sites.

Adkins emphasized that Doors Open Guelph is not only for local residents who pass by these buildings every day but also for visitors who want to experience the unique charm of the city. She highlighted the importance of such events in fostering a sense of community and allowing people to connect with the heritage and culture of Guelph. Additionally, Guelph will be the first municipality in Ontario to host a Doors Open event this year, showcasing the city’s commitment to promoting historical preservation and public engagement. Those interested in participating in Doors Open Guelph as volunteers or seeking more information can visit the event’s website for details on how to get involved.
