Georgia Bulldogs star running back Trevor Etienne was arrested on four misdemeanor charges early Sunday morning, including DUI. Etienne, 20, was booked into the Athens-Clarke Jail at around 4:35 a.m. in Athens. He was released nearly an hour later. In addition to the DUI charge, he was also charged with failure to maintain lane/improper driving on the road, affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield, and reckless driving. The DUI charge was deemed “less safe,” which means Etienne could be convicted of it even if his blood alcohol content level was less than .08.

Georgia’s executive associate director for strategic communications, Steven Drummond, issued a statement acknowledging the charges and stating that the university is currently in the process of gathering additional information. He added that the matter is pending legal and that they will not have further comment at this time. Etienne, who transferred from the Florida Gators, was among the top players Georgia landed from the transfer portal. He rushed for more than 700 yards in the last two seasons. Georgia coach Kirby Smart described Etienne as a tremendous leader with high character, noting that he immediately surged into a leadership role due to his experience in the conference.

Despite the charges against Etienne, there has been no further comment from the university at this time. Etienne’s arrest comes as a blow to Georgia, as he was expected to be a key player for the team in the upcoming season. However, his legal situation may impact his ability to contribute on the field, depending on the progression of the case. Georgia’s coaching staff had high praise for Etienne prior to his arrest, highlighting his leadership qualities and experience in the conference. It remains to be seen how the university will handle his legal issues and whether he will face any disciplinary action as a result of the charges.

Deion Sanders believes that Etienne would have been the second quarterback selected in the upcoming draft and that this incident could impact his future prospects. Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, is also a highly rated quarterback prospect and may face similar challenges in the future. The Associated Press contributed to this report, providing additional context to Etienne’s arrest and the potential implications for his career. Fans and supporters will be eagerly awaiting updates on this developing story and hoping for a resolution that serves the best interests of all parties involved.
