Apple’s latest MacBook Pro models may be the most advanced macOS laptops yet, but with the digital revolution set for 2024, they are expected to be replaced before the end of the year. According to Apple reporter Mark Gurman, the tech giant is gearing up to start production of the Apple Silicon M4 chipset for macOS and the MacBook Pro family. While the MacBook Pro was updated with M3 technology in October 2023, the current platform is lacking in Artificial Intelligence capabilities, which are crucial in today’s tech landscape.

The flagship ARM chipsets for smartphones from companies like Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek all come with dedicated hardware for AI, and Qualcomm is even introducing the Snapdragon X Elite chipset for Windows laptops and desktops. This means that Apple will need to upgrade its MacBook Pro lineup quickly to incorporate AI-focused hardware, in order to keep up with the competition. A low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro and high-end 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros are expected to launch alongside the iMac and macMini, with no mention of a MacBook Air due to supply constraints.

With a decline in Mac sales and flat revenue in the fourth quarter of 2023, Apple is counting on the AI focus in its upcoming MacBook Pro models to attract consumers to the macOS platform and entice existing users to upgrade their hardware. The company is expected to showcase its vision of AI on its mobile platforms, including MacOS, at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June. As the Windows ecosystem gears up to introduce its own AI system and upgraded ARM experience, consumers are advised to wait and compare Apple and Microsoft’s approaches before making any major purchases.

Microsoft and ARM’s challenge on Windows presents a significant hurdle for Apple as the tech giant looks to revamp its MacBook lineup with the M4 chipset. With AI becoming increasingly essential in today’s tech ecosystem, the pressure is on for Apple to deliver a competitive product that can keep up with the advancements in the industry. As the digital revolution approaches in 2024, consumers can expect to see major upgrades in Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup to incorporate AI-focused hardware and enhanced performance features to stay ahead in the game.
