Samsung is gearing up for its Galaxy Unpacked event this summer, with the highly anticipated debut of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones. However, reports suggest that the most exciting model, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Fan Edition, may be delayed until later in the year. This Fan Edition would be the first of Samsung’s foldables to carry the FE brand, offering a more affordable option with most of the family’s features.

The launch of a Fan Edition model is crucial in the foldables innovation race, as the market is moving towards cheaper options. Samsung currently dominates the market with a 68 per cent share, but competitors like Nubia are releasing more affordable foldable phones. The Fan Edition branding of the Z Fold 6 implies that Samsung is planning to offer a cheaper version of its flagship foldable smartphone.

Samsung is expected to release three models of the Z Fold 6, including the vanilla Z Fold 6, a Z Fold 6 Ultra with improved specs, and the Z Fold 6 FE. The decision to delay the launch of the Z Fold 6 FE allows the focus to remain on the premium and high-end segment. By saving the Fan Edition for later in the year, Samsung can potentially use it to compete with Apple’s iPhone 16, which is set to launch in September.

Samsung’s key launches for 2024 are scheduled for January and July, so delaying the Z Fold 6 FE could help the company maintain momentum going into the holiday quarter. If Samsung successfully launches the Z Fold 6 FE, along with a Z Flip 6 FE and Galaxy S24 FE, they could hold a Galaxy Unpacked Fan Edition event in October to capture the market’s attention and compete with Apple.

Overall, Samsung’s strategy for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and potential delayed release of the Z Fold 6 FE reflect the company’s efforts to stay competitive in the evolving foldable smartphone market. By offering a more affordable Fan Edition model, Samsung aims to appeal to a wider range of consumers while continuing to innovate and lead the way in foldable technology.
