Yoto Mini speakers for children are being voluntarily recalled due to a lithium-ion battery that can overheat and pose burn and fire risks. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on April 11, advising parents to remove the speakers from their children’s reach. However, recalled units do not need to be discarded and can be made safe with a free Yoto Mini Smart Cable provided by the company.

Owners of the Yoto Mini speakers should contact Yoto to receive the free smart cable by cutting the existing charging cable in half and uploading a photo of it with their email and Yoto Mini serial number. The smart cable will prevent the battery from overheating by stopping charging when it reaches a certain point. Additionally, Yoto has implemented an automatic software update across all Yoto Mini speakers to improve battery management and ensure safety for consumers.

Yoto apologizes for any inconvenience and concern caused by the issue with their product and reassures customers that safety is their top priority. The Yoto Mini Bluetooth speaker is intended for children ages 3 to 12 to play audiobooks, music, radio, and podcasts using physical Yoto cards that correspond to different audio content. Although no injuries have been reported, there have been reports of the speaker overheating or melting, leading to the recall of about 251,165 units in the United States and 18,932 units in Canada.

The recalled Yoto Mini speakers have the SKU PRPLXX00860 on the base and were sold online at us.yotoplay.com, maisonette.com, and in major retailers like Amazon.com and Target.com, as well as in toy and gift stores nationwide from November 2021 to April 2024. To make the recalled speakers safe for use, consumers can receive a free Yoto Mini Smart Cable to regulate the battery charge and prevent overheating. It is important for parents to take immediate action to ensure the safety of their children and eliminate any potential burn or fire hazards associated with the Yoto Mini speaker.
