Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has raised over $84,000 since indicting former President Donald Trump last summer, according to state campaign finance data. Willis, who is facing reelection, drew two challengers to her bid after filing paperwork to qualify for the election. Her campaign has received national attention, with nearly 70 percent of donations coming from out of state. Since May 2022, Willis has raised a total of $326,042 from across 46 states.

While Willis’ campaign was flooded with donations in July 2022, with over 500 contributions, it doesn’t appear that the indictment of Trump significantly boosted her fundraising efforts. Despite facing challenges in her reelection bid and ongoing legal battles over the Trump case, Fulton County remains solidly blue, giving Willis a strong chance of holding onto her seat. The judge in the case allowed Willis to stay on as prosecutor as long as her special prosecutor, Nathan Wade, resigned due to their relationship. State Republicans have launched an investigation into Willis’ alleged misconduct, further complicating the case.

Due to the ongoing scrutiny and legal challenges in the Trump case, Willis welcomed potential challengers in her reelection bid, stating that anyone running against her should be prepared for a fight. She emphasized her commitment to the work and her intention to continue serving as the District Attorney for the next four years and nine months. Willis’ opponents, Christian Wise Smith and Courtney Kramer, pose a threat to her reelection bid, but as long as she wins the primary, her chances of retaining her seat are high.

The relationship between Willis and her special prosecutor, Nathan Wade, has continued to cloud the case, despite the judge ruling that there was no conflict of interest. Attorneys for Trump and his co-defendants have appealed the ruling, seeking to have Willis removed from the case. The Georgia Appeals Court is expected to review the matter, adding another layer of complexity to the legal proceedings. Amidst the challenges and controversies surrounding the Trump case and her reelection bid, Willis remains focused on her commitment to serving as District Attorney and defending her position against challengers.
