Katy Perry is mourning the loss of celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero.
Perry, 40, a former client of Guerrero’s, shared a heartfelt post via Instagram on Saturday, March 1, alongside a carousel of photos and videos of memories with the hairstylist. Guerrero was responsible for creating many of the pop star’s iconic hairstyles.
“Hey Hey aka Chuy aka Jesus, our light filled beautiful boy ❤️,” Perry’s caption began. “You always made every room so warm and welcome. There was no problem too big to solve and one of your many talents was effortlessly reminding women around the world of our Goddess nature with even just a simple blowout.”
Perry went on to say that Guerrero, who died unexpectedly last month at age 34, “took care of everyone” and “brought a positive energy to everything.” She noted that he was “easy to love” and “always felt like an old friend who would tell you the truth and hold you if you needed an extra cuddle.”
She continued, “I know you are ok because you are now in the light that you shined so brightly back here on earth. It’s just us that are left with a dimmer world without you.”
Perry went on to share a quote about grief, which read: “Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.”
“Let us take that grief and replant it as a seed of love and give it to someone who needs it from you today,” the “I Kissed a Girl” singer continued. “Life is precious and when we unexpectedly lose ones we love without being able to say goodbye it reminds us to never ever hold back on giving out our love.”
Perry concluded, “Jesus, you effervescent soul you, you better be giving the other Jesus a choppy feather or an octopus cut up there lol… till we meet again, I love you Chuy.”
Guerrero’s sister, Gris Guerrero, confirmed her brother’s death on February 22, though his cause of death was not confirmed at the time. A source told Us Weekly that Guerrero was battling an illness while traveling in Dubai with his client Jennifer Lopez.
“Everyone on his team did everything they could to get him to the doctors because he was not well,” Gris exclusively explained to Us in February. “They told him he was not going to work, he should see a doctor and rest. And he wanted to come home.”
