Pollen Systems, an ag-tech startup based in Seattle, has recently secured $2.4 million in funding and has hired nine new employees, including sales directors for various regions around the world. The company, founded in 2017, utilizes artificial intelligence to assist farmers growing high-value crops such as apples, avocados, blueberries, cannabis, cherries, citrus fruit, nuts, raspberries, rice, soybeans, and wine grapes. This new capital has increased Pollen Systems’ value to $24 million, according to their quarterly newsletter.

Pollen Systems’ technology involves the use of drones to collect aerial imagery and provide data on individual plants and trees, using visual AI to assess crop health. The company offers customized management plans for different crops, such as wine grapes, providing insights on irrigation needs, pest monitoring, heat stress detection, and harvest yield predictions. Their platform is designed to assist farmers in optimizing their crop production and overall farm management.

Expanding their reach, Pollen Systems currently operates in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Chile, and Spain, with plans to enter 10 new countries in the upcoming year. These new target markets include the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Rwanda. The company aims to establish local subsidiaries in these regions and explore opportunities in additional sectors such as the paper industry, sugarcane, and coffee.

In a competitive landscape, Pollen Systems faces rivals like SemiosBio Tech in Vancouver, Ceres Imaging, and Taranis. Despite the competition, the company’s technology and unique services position them well in the market. The leadership of Pollen Systems is spearheaded by Keith McCall, a former executive at Microsoft, who serves as the founder and CEO of the organization, guiding its growth and strategic direction.

With a focus on enhancing agricultural practices and improving crop outcomes, Pollen Systems continues to innovate in the ag-tech industry by leveraging artificial intelligence and drone technology. By providing farmers with detailed insights and actionable recommendations, the company aims to support sustainable farming practices and optimize crop production. Through their expansion into new markets and sectors, Pollen Systems is poised to make a significant impact on the global agriculture industry.
