Brynne Abgrall, a 21-year-old dancer from Winnipeg, has always wanted to create a local dance convention for young artists. With the support of a university professor, her dream finally came to fruition with the launch of FORM Dance Convention. The two-day event is designed for dancers aged eight to 19 and includes master classes and workshops in performance psychology, nutrition, and conditioning. Abgrall believes that this convention is unique in Winnipeg and aims to enhance the dance experience of the participants by bringing in a faculty of high caliber instructors.
The FORM Dance Convention features five professional dancers from Los Angeles and Utah who are teaching a variety of classes throughout the weekend. One of the instructors, Jordan Clark, expresses her excitement at being part of the convention and her passion for giving back to young dancers. For aspiring professional dancer Juliette Joachim, the event provides an opportunity to learn new skills and improve her expression through movements in different dance styles. With over 130 dancers participating in the convention, Abgrall sees the growing talent in Winnipeg and hopes to provide a valuable experience for both competitive and recreational dancers in the city.
Abgrall envisions expanding FORM Dance Convention beyond Winnipeg to other Canadian cities in the future. While the focus is currently on Winnipeg, she plans to start planning for conventions in other provinces once the inaugural event is over. The goal is to bring the convention to every province in Canada within the next few years. Abgrall believes that there is a demand for such events across the country and hopes to continue providing young dancers with opportunities to learn from top instructors and improve their skills.
The participants of the FORM Dance Convention are eager to learn and grow as dancers during the two-day event. For many, this is a unique opportunity to receive training from professional dancers and instructors that they may not have access to otherwise. The inclusion of workshops on performance psychology, nutrition, and conditioning also adds value to the experience, helping dancers develop a holistic approach to their craft. The convention aims to not only improve technical skills but also foster a supportive and motivating environment for young artists.
Overall, the FORM Dance Convention is a platform for young dancers in Winnipeg to come together, learn, and grow in their passion for dance. Abgrall’s dedication to creating this event stems from her own lifelong love for dance and a desire to share that with others. By bringing top instructors to the city and providing a unique educational experience, she hopes to inspire the next generation of dancers and expand the reach of FORM Dance Convention to dancers across Canada. The success of this inaugural event sets the stage for future conventions that will continue to support and nurture young artistic talent in the country.
