Vice President Kamala Harris recently announced new proposals aimed at targeting Black men in an effort to strengthen her coalition ahead of Election Day. Despite lagging behind President Joe Biden’s numbers with Black voters, particularly men, recent polling suggests there is room for growth. Former President Barack Obama recently issued a warning to Black men, emphasizing the importance of participating in the election and urging them not to sit out because of Harris’ gender.

The proposal put forward by Harris focuses on providing Black men with tools to achieve financial freedom, lower costs, and protect their rights. One key component involves offering fully forgivable loans of up to $20,000 to Black entrepreneurs and others looking to start a business. This initiative would be carried out through a partnership between the Small Business Administration and various lenders and banks. Additionally, Harris is advocating for increased job opportunities for Black men through programs that promote apprenticeships, strengthen loan forgiveness programs, and support more Black male teachers.

Harris’ plan also includes a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets and a National Health Equity Initiative aimed at addressing health challenges that disproportionately impact Black men. She is also pushing for the legalization of recreational marijuana and creating opportunities for Black Americans to succeed in the industry. The campaign will be promoting these initiatives through various events such as “Black Men Huddle Up” gatherings, an Economic Freedom Talk series, and paid media outreach.

Prior to becoming the Democratic nominee, Harris had been focused on mobilizing Black men to vote for Biden during his reelection campaign. The campaign is concerned that lack of voter turnout among Black and Hispanic men could benefit Donald Trump. To address this, Harris will be traveling to Detroit for a radio town hall hosted by Charlamagne tha God, a popular radio co-host with a large following, especially among Black audiences. The goal is to engage Black men and emphasize the impact of their votes in the upcoming election.

Overall, Harris’ proposals for Black men are aimed at providing them with economic opportunities, job prospects, and improved health outcomes. The campaign hopes to draw a contrast with Trump’s approach, focusing on empowerment and support for Black Americans. By addressing key issues facing Black men and emphasizing the importance of their votes, Harris is working to strengthen her coalition and secure their support leading up to Election Day.
