A tragic incident occurred at Zion National Park, where a 40-year-old canyoneer fell approximately 150 to 200 feet near the exit of Heaps Canyon on October 5. The man, who has not been identified, was canyoneering with three others when the accident happened around 6 p.m. The group was following the permitted itinerary through Heaps Canyon when the fall occurred. The Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team, along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene to provide emergency medical care.

The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter transported the victim to receive additional care from the Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue team and Intermountain Life Flight.
