Emma Brungardt, a 19-year-old rodeo star who won Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas in 2024, tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle car accident in rural Kansas. The accident occurred when the pickup truck she was a passenger in veered off the roadway and struck a tree row in Thomas County. Brungardt was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, but unfortunately, she did not survive. Four of her teammates and another person were injured in the accident.

Colby Community College, where Brungardt was a sophomore, confirmed her death on Monday morning. The school’s rodeo team posted on Facebook expressing their condolences and stating that Brungardt was a sweet soul who had a positive attitude and would be deeply missed. The driver of the pickup was an 18-year-old man from Colorado, and the other passengers included a 20-year-old woman from Larned, a 19-year-old woman from Newton, a 19-year-old woman from Galva, and an 18-year-old man from Council Grove.

Brungardt was studying equine management and production at Colby Community College and competed in rodeo events such as goat tying, breakaway, and team roping. She was described on the Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas website as a “first-generation cowgirl” who embraced the western way of life. In high school, she was involved in FFA and the Kansas Wild Horse Youth Challenge, where she won grand champion in 2019 and 2021. She also participated in the Kansas High School Rodeo Association for two years.

The loss of Brungardt has left a profound impact on the rodeo community, with many expressing their condolences and remembering her as a talented athlete and kind-hearted individual. Brungardt’s involvement in various rodeo and agricultural organizations showcased her passion for the western way of life and her dedication to her sport. She was attending Colby Community College on a rodeo scholarship and was recognized as Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas 2024.

The tragic accident has highlighted the dangers of driving, especially for young individuals.
