Neve Campbell will be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming Scream VII, after sitting out the sixth installment of the franchise. The original 1996 film, directed by Wes Craven, follows Sidney as she is targeted by masked killers who are later revealed to be her boyfriend, Billy Loomis, and his friend Stu Macher. David Arquette and Courteney Cox also starred in the film as Deputy Dewey Riley and reporter Gale Weathers, respectively.
Craven directed the first four films before his death in 2015, and after a 12 year gap, the franchise was revived with 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI. Neve Campbell had a small part in Scream (2022), passing the torch to new final girls Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. However, the story will now shift back to Campbell’s Sidney for the seventh installment after both Barrera and Ortega exited the project. Scream VII is set to begin in December, and fans are eagerly awaiting which OG cast members will return for the film.
Courteney Cox, who played Gale in the franchise, has stated that she is not officially signed on for Scream VII, but there will be a seventh film in the series. Cox expressed excitement about the film being directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the script for the original Scream movie. There is still uncertainty about whether Cox’s character will return, as the script is being rewritten constantly.
David Arquette, who played Dewey, does not seem hopeful about his character’s return after Dewey was killed in Scream (2022). Despite this, Arquette expressed his love for working with the original cast and the opportunity to play Dewey again. Skeet Ulrich, who played Billy in the original film, has expressed hopes of returning for Scream VII and being part of a three-movie arc that impacted the plot.
Matthew Lillard, who played Stu in the original Scream film, has left fans wondering if his character could return despite being killed in the movie. Lillard has expressed his willingness to return to the franchise, but director Kevin Williamson has confirmed that Stu is indeed dead. Hayden Panettiere, who played Kirby in Scream 4, has also become a fan favorite and fans have been rallying for her return in Scream VII.
Patrick Dempsey, who played Detective Mark Kincaid in Scream 3, has been a fan favorite despite not being an original cast member. It has been revealed in Scream (2022) that Kincaid is now married to Sidney and they share three children. Campbell has hinted that Dempsey may return for Scream VII, leaving fans eager to see if his character will make a comeback in the next installment.
