Newsweek is providing tips and hints for those who missed out on the “Connections” puzzle from the previous day. Connections is a word game launched by The New York Times in June 2023, following the success of Wordle. Wyna Liu, the developer of Connections and NYT crossword editor, recently shared her best piece of advice for playing the game, which is to wait as long as possible before guessing. Players are given a 16-word table and must group the words into four categories based on common characteristics.

The rules of play for Connections are rather simple. Players must break the words into four groups of four based on common characteristics. Each group is linked to a particular color based on their difficulty level. The words players choose will either appear in the category color and disappear from the board if correct, or remain on the board in gray if incorrect. There is no time limit for the game, but players only have four guesses before the answers are revealed. If players need a refresh, they can scramble the words with the “Shuffle” button.

For each day’s Connections puzzle, Newsweek provides clues to help players solve the game. The clues are divided into different color-coded categories, such as athletic accomplishments associated with the number three, supplies for decorating a room, foods named after cities, and events connected to a particular word. The answers for each day’s puzzle are also revealed at the bottom of the page, so players can check if they were able to solve the puzzle correctly.

The Wednesday puzzle for Connections included categories such as a trio of sports achievements, needs for painting a room, food named after cities, and events related to the term “derby.” The yellow category included words like “Hat trick” and “Trifecta,” while the green category featured words like “Drop cloth” and “Tape.” The blue category included words like “Broil” and “Cheesesteak,” and the purple category had words like “Demolition” and “Kentucky.” Players who successfully solved the puzzle can congratulate themselves, while those who didn’t can try again with the next day’s puzzle.

Connections puzzles are released at midnight in each player’s local time zone, and Newsweek provides new clues and answers for each day’s puzzle. Players can also try other word games like Wordscapes and Words With Friends to keep their minds sharp and challenged. By following the hints and tips provided by Newsweek and taking their time with the game, players can improve their skills and enjoy the challenge of solving each day’s Connections puzzle.
