The Israel Defense Forces successfully conducted a targeted missile strike on the capital city of Lebanon, Beirut, aiming to eliminate Ibrahim Aqil, a member of Hezbollah’s Jihad Council. Aqil was wanted by the United States for his alleged involvement in the bombing of a U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut in 1983 and is also linked to the taking of American hostages during the 1980s. Israeli officials confirmed that Aqil, who was the Head of Hezbollah’s Operations Unit and the Commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Forces, was eliminated in the airstrike. Hezbollah officials acknowledged that the airstrike hit a building in the Dahiya district where Aqil was believed to be present. The strike resulted in the deaths of at least nine individuals and left around 60 others injured, with two apartment buildings destroyed in the process.
