An elderly woman was brutally stabbed multiple times in the head by an attacker who followed her into an elevator at a residential building in the Bronx. The incident occurred at 2066 Morris Avenue in the Tremont neighborhood, and the 75-year-old victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment. The suspect, identified as Edwin Rios, 38, was apprehended by police and charged with attempted murder. The victim’s condition and relationship to the attacker are unknown, and it is unclear if she lived in the building where the attack occurred.

This is not the first time Rios has been involved in a violent crime. In October 2012, he followed a 22-year-old woman off a bus in Queens and stabbed her twice in the back. He was arrested in 2013 for this crime. Overall crime in New York City has decreased by 2.3%, but felony assault is up by 3% and robbery by 4.1%. The NYPD does not publicly track stabbing incidents, so data on these types of assaults is not readily available.

In a separate incident, several women have reported being randomly punched in Downtown Manhattan. Skiboky Stora, 40, of East New York, was charged with assault in connection with an attack on Halley Kate. Kate’s TikTok video about the incident went viral, attracting attention to the issue. Following her video, several other women came forward to share their experiences of being sucker punched while walking. It is not known if Stora is a suspect in any of the other reported incidents of random assaults on women in the area.

The increase in random attacks on women highlights a concerning trend of violence against women in the city. Incidents like these can create fear and unease among residents, particularly women who may feel unsafe walking alone. The police must investigate and address these incidents to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers. The rise in felony assaults and robberies also calls for increased attention and resources to be allocated towards addressing violent crime in the city to prevent future incidents from occurring.

The community in the Bronx and Downtown Manhattan must come together to support victims of violence and work towards creating a safer environment for all residents. Increased awareness and vigilance can help individuals protect themselves from potential attacks and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. By working together with law enforcement and local organizations, residents can help prevent future incidents of violence and make their neighborhoods safer for everyone. It is crucial to address the root causes of violence and provide support to victims in order to create a safer and more secure city for all its residents.
